What is the CAN Demonstration Project?

As part of the Victorian State Government’s Customer Access Network (CAN) Demonstration Programs, Omniconnect is rolling out alternative telecommunication infrastructure in the Pyrenees and Northern Grampians regions.

During the project, Omniconnect will build a $2 million network that will extend telecommunications from six hub locations – Stawell, St Arnaud, Halls Gap, Beaufort, Moonambel and Avoca.

The $1 million injection of government funding means Victorian business operators, hospitals and the community in these towns can gain access to fast broadband services including Voice over the Internet Protocol (VoIP), videoconferencing, telemedicine and toll-bypass voice services.

The Pyrenees/Grampians CANDP project will particularly benefit the region's wineries and tourism industry, which will be able to access high-speed broadband services that make electronic business (eBusiness) possible.

Broadband services also have the potential to deliver enormous benefits to the region's health sector through eHealth applications such as remote diagnosis, overcoming the distance barrier.

To ensure you get contacted when services are available in your area, please register your interest by selecting the town nearest to you above.
